JBeam 3x3.5JBeam - The Hits

J-Beam and his Mathmadix crew are in a class of their own. I had the privilege of getting in contact with J-Beam to discuss his crew, his many live events, and his new album "In A Class Of Our Own" which is expected to drop sometime soon in 2010.  He also filled me in on which alcoholic beverage gets his shows started and keeps them rolling, his upcoming shows in New Mexico and Ohio, what venues put on the best shows in Arizona, and which Grammy-nominated artist he has produced and collaborated with.

Dez Tillman's 2010 Birthday Bash flyer

If you haven't already heard of Dez Tillman, you probably will soon enough. One of Arizona's rising stars, Dez (also known as GuitarZan) has worked with talent including Tash from Alkaholiks, Nate Dogg, and Knoc-turn al', and is currently part of the Mathmadix family with J-Beam, Knawledg and crew. I got a hold of Dez recently to find out more about his Birthday Bash that took place on May 7th, 2010 at Club 910 (formerly Boston's) in Tempe, AZ.

UCSB's Music Department professors Dennis Russell (professor of ethnomusiclogy and playing lead guitar) and Sean Taylor (professor of music theory and playing rhythm guitar), joined by Patti Hopper (keyboards) and friends, put on a free concert at the UCSB Music Bowl on May 12th, 2010 from 12:00p-1:00p.  Showcasing the sounds of Sothern California surf rock from the 1960's and beyond, the event included songs by Dick Dale, The Surfaris, The Chantays, and other classic instrumental surf music from the 20th century.  Below are a few short videos taken from a camera phone at the event, which was part of the UCSB World Music Series at Noon presented by the UCSB Music Department.  See information about the event on Google's cached version of the UCSB Calendar and check out the flyer for the World Music Series.
